Getting Started

Start the Alexa skill
Say, "Alexa, open Mother Tongue."

Choose a language
Alexa will ask, "What language would you like to practice?" Respond with a language, such as “Spanish”.

Set the duration
Alexa will ask, "For how long would you like to practice?" Respond with a time such as "5 minutes"

Choose a topic
Alexa will ask, "What topic would you like to discuss?" Respond with a topic such as "weekends"

Begin speaking!
Speak in the selected language and let Alexa guide the conversation in real-time.

Navigate to Skills & Games
In the Alexa app, tap the More button (three horizontal lines at the bottom-right of the screen) and select Skills & Games.

Search for Mother Tongue
In the Skills & Games section, search for Mother Tongue.

Enable the Skill
Tap Enable to activate the Mother Tongue skill on your Alexa app.

Start Practicing
Mother Tongue is now on your mobile device! Simply say, "Alexa, open Mother Tongue" to start.

How to Change the Locale on Your Alexa

Open the Alexa app
Go to the Alexa app on your smartphone or tablet.

Go to Devices
Tap on the Devices icon at the bottom of the screen.

Select Echo & Alexa
Choose the Echo & Alexa option from the top menu.

Choose your device
Select the Alexa device you're using for Mother Tongue.

Scroll to Language
Scroll down and tap on Language.

Select the language you want to practice, for example, French or Spanish.
